Fourth grade is a year of learning and adventure. Mrs. Asghedom, Mrs. Finn, Mrs. Stafford, Mrs. Tuthill, and our instructional assistant, Mrs. Galie, help fourth graders learn important skills this year. Students learn how to become mathematical problem solvers in four small, flexibly grouped math classes. Our studies in science include investigations and experiments about weather, simple machines, plants and electricity. Fourth graders predict weather patterns, build simple machines, grow their own plants to learn about a plant's life cycle, and experiment with batteries and bulbs to explore the principles of electricity. This is the year for learning the history, geography, civics, and economics of our great state of Virginia. We trace our state’s history from 1607 to the present and have fun doing it. On Colonial Day we step back in time to learn the crafts, dances, and songs of this era. We visit George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond. We are especially excited about our trip to Jamestown, the first permanent English colony.
