First Grade

There are 3 first grades at Cherry Run, led by Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Busch and Mrs. Thieman. First grade’s focus is reading, reading and more reading. Math and science evolve through practical experience with counting and calendar, using money and estimating, and doing weather recording and nature observations. First grade enjoys the study of famous Americans, visits to Mount Vernon, Green Spring Gardens and a celebration of winter holidays around the world with the generous contributions of our diverse community.

This year first grade is participating in the Journey North project, planting a bulb garden in the fall along with classes all over North America, then tracking the gradual arrival of spring in these gardens (via the Journey North website) as the Red Emperor tulips bloom. Look for our tulips by the Cherry Run sign on the hillside near the upper field, if our hungry neighborhood squirrels haven’t feasted too heartily.
