Attendance Procedures

Absenses and tardies are reported and handled by the school at Chantilly High School.

Attendance notes should state first and last name of student, reason ad date of tardy/absence/check-out (include time), parent/guardian name and relationship to student, daytime phone or cell phone number of parent/guardian, and signature of parent/guardian.

If your student is going to be absent or late:
• Call the subschool to inform the secretary of the absence or tardy before 9:00 a.m. You may leave word on the answering machine as early as the night before.

• If you have not spoken to someone from the school on the day of the tardy/absence; we must hear from you by fax or note within 48 hours after the student’s return or the absence will become unexcused.

If your student is going to be checking out before the end of the school day:
• A written note or fax is required.
• Simply write a note/fax, including time and reason for checkout, and have your student bring it the subschool office before 7:25 a.m. If you aren’t sure of the checkout tine before your student leaves home, leave the space blank and we will add the time when you call/phone/fax the information to the subschool.
• Unexpected checkouts are more difficult to handle. We understand that there may be times when something unexpected happens and you find it necessary to pick up your student. Please try to call ahead as it may be difficult to quickly locate the student who may be at lunch, in a PE class, etc.

• If your student returns to school the same day, it is necessary to check in through the subschool.

For a pre-arranged absence, and other school policies and procedures, please refer to the Student Handbook in the front of your student’s Planner. Call your subschool if you have any questions.
