Forensics Club 2009-10

Club Name:

Forensics Club

Description of Club:

Forensics team isn't like CSI: There are no cadavers around here! : - ) In fact, we're one of the most lively teams you'll find at CHS! (By the way, "forensics" nowadays refers to competitive public speaking and performance based on its original Greek meaning of "speaking for judgement and the truth.")

On the Chantilly Forensics Team, you can join a fun, competitive group of students that travels locally, regionally, and nationally to perform and win awards and scholarships in three basic categories of performance:

1) oratorical (speeches you write in advance) - Speak out on subjects that matter to you!

2) spontaneous (speeches made up on the spot with no advance preparation) - Learn how to think quickly on your feet and prepare for situations like job and scholarship interviews!

3) dramatic (short - e.g. 10-minute - solo or duo performances of monologues, plays, poems, fiction, nonfiction, and even children's stories!) - Test your dramatic spirit and share your love for literature!

We have a year-long season with room for anyone from the dabbler to the very committed.

When you join Forensics, you'll be joining a very successful team. In the last few years, the CHS Forensics and Debate Team has traveled to Harvard University, Princeton University, The University of California at Berkeley, and the National Forensic League and CFL Grand National Tournaments. In 2004, we were 1st place in the Washington Metro Area for our combined debate and forensics programs and the 1st place new school in the Northern Virginia Forensics League.
