Chantilly High School is located in a residential neighborhood
in the southwestern part of historic Fairfax County, twenty miles
west of our nation's capital. The community of Chantilly has a
very rich history dating back to before the Civil War. With the
advent of the Civil War, it became the site of major battles, innumerable
patrol actions and many cavalry skirmishes. After World War II,
the population of Chantilly started to flourish and eventually
became a suburban community.
Chantilly High School was built in 1972-1973. The original plan
was for the school to accommodate 2,200 students and to serve as
a secondary facility with grades seven through twelve. In 1980,
Rocky Run Middle School was built less than a quarter of a mile
down the road from Chantilly High School. When the new middle school
opened, Chantilly became a high school with grades nine through
twelve.
