Counselor Grade-Level Meetings During Charger Time
Counselors have met (or will meet) with groups of their students to share important information to each grade level throughout the school year. These programs will be offered during Charger Time, which occurs every “A” Day. All students will be assigned to a specific location and date, based on their last name. Fliers are posted throughout the school in advance to advise students of their meeting date and time. Please ask your students to share the information provided to them.
The grade-level meetings occurred/will be offered on these dates:
- Seniors - Mon, Sept 10 or Wed, Sept 12
- Juniors – Wed, Nov 14 or Fri, Nov 16 AND Tues, Jan 8 or Thurs, Jan 10
- Sophomores – Mon, Apr 22, 2013 or Wed, Apr 24, 2013
- All freshmen students are participating in a Transition program throughout the school year. Students will meet with their assigned counselor and to review various topics to find success school – such as Goal Setting, How to Get Good Grades, Making Friends & Getting Involved and Time Management.
Charger Time Programs
Student Services will offer various Charger Time programs throughout the school year to assist students with the college planning process. These programs are optional and will take place during Charger Time.
- Completing Winning Applications for Juniors – Tuesday, March 19
- Becoming a College Athlete for Grades 9, 10 and 11 – Tuesday, April 9
Upcoming Events/Opportunities
ASVAB Testing for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors – Tuesday, March 5
The Career Center will be administering the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on Tuesday, March 5 from 8:00am to 10:30am in the Lecture Hall. The test is intended for students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades to assist them in matching their skills, interests and work values in post-secondary planning. Students interested in learning more about career options, particularly those in the armed forces, can register for the ASVAB in the Career Center. (A student does not have to enter the military if they take the test.)

This program is for Juniors and Parents to start creating applications that will help students shine in the application process. Topics include: how colleges review applications, the essay writing process, recommendation letters, and activities resumes. This program will also be offered during Charger Time the following week.Military Academy Night – Thursday, March 14th at 7:00pm (Westfield High School - Library)
Students from Chantilly, Centreville and Westfield High Schools are invited to attend this program being held at Westfield High School in the Library. Meet representatives from the United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, VT Corps of Cadets, Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, GMU ROTC Program and the Offices of Congressmen Wolfe and Connolly.AP Testing Pre-Registration
Students that are taking any AP exams this May will need to attend a pre-registration session with their counselor to complete important paperwork for testing. Locations will be assigned by last name (signs will be posted throughout the school building).
Seniors – Tuesday, April 16
Juniors – Thursday, April 18
Sophomores will register through their AP classes.College Admissions 101 for Sophomore Students and Parents – Thursday, April 25 at 7:00pm (Auditorium)
Learn about the basics of the college selection and admissions process – as well as how to identify good college options for yourself/your student).Essay Writing Workshop for Junior Students and Parents – Monday, May
Learn about the “art of the personal narrative” and how to create a college essay that is authentic, creative and well-written.
