2012-13 Online Opening
Dear Chantilly High School Chargers:
It’s hard to believe that August is already here! I hope that as you read this letter, you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer vacation. I am very much looking forward to students returning to school. I must admit, it has been too quiet at CHS and I miss the constant activity that comes with staff and students returning to the building.
We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2016. Be on the lookout for a Keep In Touch message that will be sent by e-mail in early August with very important information and dates to include Senior schedule pick-up and picnic, Chargin’ In (schedule pick-up) and Freshman Orientation. You’ll also notice there has been a change to our bell schedule for the 2012-13 school year. School will begin at the usual time of 7:20 am; dismissal time has changed to 2:05 pm. This dismissal time was county mandated and approved by the FCPS School Board. Building wise, we’ve made a few improvements this summer beginning with a new gym floor, several newly painted areas around the building and improved landscape.
Academically, we will continue to focus on improving the critical reading skills of all students and we will add critical thinking skills to this focus. When we strengthen these skills, all student academic achievement improves. We will also continue expanding our Character Education Committee, including more students in the planning and implementation of projects, and provide new opportunities for students to engage in service learning.
Here are some dates to remember:
- August 27 - senior schedule pick-up and senior picnic
- August 28 – Chargin’ In
- August 30 – Freshman Orientation
- September 4 – First Day of School
- Homecoming Week – September 17-22
- Back To School Night – September 27
As you wind down the summer, make sure you take plenty of time to treasure your family and enjoy the relaxation. I look forward to seeing you!
My best to all,
Teresa Johnson
