Library Policies
OUR BOOKS check out for three weeks. We charge overdue fines at the rate of 10¢ per day (reference books and audio books are $1 per day). Videotapes and DVDs do not circulate to students. To avoid fines, students can renew books before the due date. Students must take care of any outstanding obligations before they can check out books.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN: We are happy to arrange to borrow books from other FCPS schools whenever possible. Please see any member of the library staff.
PASSES are required to visit the library during the school day except for class visits accompanied by a teacher. No passes are necessary before or after school or during a student’s lunch period.
MAGAZINES and NEWSPAPERS: The library receives the Washington Post and USA TODAY dailyand the Fairfax Times weekly. We also subscribe to 25+ weekly and monthly magazines on a variety of topics. Our magazines do not circulate, but students are welcome to read them in the library.
DATABASES: CHS students are provided with a wealth of online databases to assist with their research needs. These resources cover a wide variety of topics and instructional levels. Links to the databases can be found under RESEARCH DATABASES on the Library web site. To use the databases outside school, passwords can be found on the CHS Library Blackboard site under the “Community” tab.
COMPUTERS: There are 36 computers available for student use on the library floor, with another 72 available in our Computer Lab and mobile laptop lab. These are intended for educational purposes only. Students should be aware that library computers are monitored.
FOOD and DRINK are not permitted in the library, except for water bottles.
Students are requested not to have cell phone conversations in the library. Please step outside to make or receive calls.
STUDENT ID CARDS are required for entry into the library and to check out books.
Students are expected to treat library materials and equipment with respect, push in chairs and dispose of their own trash.

Tuesdays: 7am - 3:00pm
Wednesdays: 7am - 3:00pm
Thursdays: 7am - 3:00pm
Fridays: 7am - 3:00pm
