About CHS

We, the Chantilly High School community, dedicate ourselves to leading students toward an understanding of their world and its cultural heritage so that they might better understand themselves and others. We commit ourselves to care about the concerns and growth of each individual.

We believe that our foremost responsibility is to create humane attitudes among students, staff, and parents based on trust and sensitivity. The staff, therefore, commits itself to cultivating self-respect and self-esteem in all members of the school community. With self-respect and self-esteem come respect for others and concern for the needs of others.

In order to become independent, contributing members of the larger human community, each student must sharpen his/her ability to think and judge critically, to act and to accept the consequences of his/her actions. We recognize our responsibility to educate each student to his/her fullest potential to assume the duties of living in a free, democratic and complex society.

The Chantilly High School Community, therefore, is committed to a comprehensive program that stimulates academic excellence in the arts and sciences as well as in business, vocational, and extracurricular pursuits. We are committed to providing a program that encourages students not only during their high school years, but helps prepare them for their later roles in a technological and demanding society.

We, the Chantilly High School Community, firmly believe that this school exists for the benefit of the students it serves.

The Chantilly Way

Chantilly High School Code of Academic Integrity

PREAMBLE:

The Chantilly High School community believes that for all to live and work together we must foster and protect a spirit of trust, intellectual honesty, and respect among students, faculty and parents. Academic integrity is an attribute that everyone in our learning community should cherish. The Chantilly High School Code of Academic Integrity will serve as an educational tool to reinforce the expectation that all students will demonstrate integrity in their academic conduct.
The Chantilly High School Code of Academic Integrity defines the expected standards of conduct in academic affairs. It is designed to foster an open and supportive environment of personal and community growth. This commitment by all students not to cheat, plagiarize, or lie, nor tolerate those who do, becomes a vital part of each individual's responsibility. Therefore, students will always commit themselves to make the correct academic choices and to work together to influence others to make the right academic decisions.

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the Chantilly High School Code of Academic Integrity is to promote honesty and integrity in all academic endeavors, to ensure the integrity of our assessments and grading system, and to educate those who violate the policy.

STATEMENT OF POLICY:

Recognizing that academic integrity is central to attaining our goal of creating a positive and effective learning environment at Chantilly High School, we find any breach of academic integrity unacceptable and a violation of this policy.
Charger in Good Standing
A Charger in Good Standing is a student who earns C's or better in all classes, has no unexcused absences, no excessive unexcused tardiness, and no discipline that would warrant either in–school or out-of-school suspensions as CHARGERS.

Discipline Policy

Discipline Policy

School Board Policy #2620 states the following: Students are responsible with each principal, faculty, and staff for maintaining a school environment in which educational programs can flourish and extracurricular programs can be conducted for the benefit of all participants.

The teacher-student relationship is the center of all educational activity. It is at this level that most discipline problems should be resolved. Teachers with their professional training and experience provide an atmosphere of mutual respect in which students learn and grow. Counselors provide additional resources for consultation and information.

Students who do not respond to the best efforts of staff members are to be referred to the subschool principal. The Chantilly faculty and staff expect full cooperation from all students and will act fairly but quickly and decisively in dealing with those students who are disruptive.

For additional details about specific issues, please refer to the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities handbook (Regulation 2610.13). Fairfax County Student Services

Career/College Info

College Information

The college process begins and ends with the student's school counselor. Student Services offers a variety of programs on the college process for both students and parents throughout the school year in the evenings and during the school day. Any questions on the college process can be directed to counselors and the Career Center.

All FCPS students are provided with a Family Connection account through Blackboard/FCPS 24-7 that can be used to research college options. Students can enter personalized information on their post-secondary plans, career options and create a list of colleges in which they are interested. Family Connection also maintains records of past college application results for Chantilly students, allowing current students to get an idea of the types of grades and test scores needed for admission.

How Students Access to Family Connection:

  1. Log onto your Blackboard/FCPS 24-7 Account at http://fcps.blackboard.com
  2. Click on “Family Connection” Icon (typically on left-side of screen)
  3. Start Planning

Parents also have access to Family Connection once they register for the Parent View of their Student’s Blackboard account.  Parents may register for a Parent View account at http://fcps.blackboard.com and log-in using the following information: Username: parentreg, Password: newuser.  Once this process is completed, there will be directions to finalize the registration.

College Visits

College Visits

College representatives schedule private visits to Chantilly High School from mid-September through November.  These visits provide a personal touch that may not be available in a school's literature. Representatives inform students about the school's admissions process and deadlines, campus life, housing, majors available and scholarships. Students have the ability to ask questions and this is often a chance for students to meet the person who will read their applications in the future.  Only juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in these visits.

The schedule of college visits are updated daily in Family Connection (accessible via Blackboard at http://fcps.blackboard.com), under the “Colleges” tab.
NOTE: This schedule also includes evening presentations that are being hosted throughout the Northern Virginia area.  Chantilly is not sponsoring any of these evening events; it is the student’s responsibility to follow the registration instructions posted.

More information on the registration process for these visits is available here.

Missed the visit?  Students can visit the Career Center to pick up any brochures from the college and also access notes from each visit through their Family Connection accounts.  (All visit notes are posted in the Document Library, which can be accessed from the student’s home page.)

Student Health

Dear Charger Parent,

The following information outlines steps for parents to help ensure compliance with FCPS Medication Administration Policy.

  1. ALL MEDICATIONS require a completed Medication Authorization Form. This includes medications approved and prescribed to be hand-carried by the student. The Medication authorization forms must be renewed at the beginning of each school year. . All forms can be downloaded at http://www.fcps.edu. Please follow the following links for specific medication authorization forms.

  2. Part I of the Medication Authorization Form must be completed and signed by parent/guardian.

  3. Part II of Medication authorization Form must be completed and signed by a physician for all prescribed medications.

  4. Parents may complete and sign part II ONLY for over-the-counter (OTC) medications, to relieve symptoms of headache, muscle ache, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps. Please indicate the symptoms the medication is to be used for. OTC medications to relieve any other symptoms or ailments must have a physician complete part II.

  5. All medications must be received in the clinic in original containers and with completed medication authorization forms. Prescription medication containers should be labeled and dated by the pharmacist. OTC medication containers should have the name of the medication visible and labeled by parent with students name, exact dose to be taken in school, and the frequency/time interval medication is to be given. Siblings may not share any medication bottles.

  6. Parents/guardians must transport all prescription medication to and from the clinic. High School students may carry only OTC medication to and from the clinic.

  7. Please be alert to medication expiration dates. If possible, medications should not expire during the SY. If a medication is due to expire, you will be notified by phone that it needs to be renewed with in two weeks prior to the expiration date.

  8. Medications with authorization forms can be received in the clinic from 7:15am-2:10pm.

  9. All medications and corresponding authorization forms must be checked carefully for compliance with FCPS policy. Please plan on waiting for this check to be done before you leave so that any corrections needed can be addressed with you immediately.

The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is responsible to ensure your child receives medication safely during the school day. If you have questions or concerns please contact the PHN at Dale.Fletcher@fcps.edu or call the clinic during school hours at 703-222-8106.

Please reference the following links for important guidelines from Chantilly's Public Health Nurse regarding student health.

Parent Liaisons

Parent Liaisons
A link between home and school

Who Are Parent Liaisons?

Parent liaisons are special staff members who work in your child's school. They help you get the information and assistance you need to support your child at home and to ensure your child's academic success.

Why Do Schools Have Parent Liaisons?

Parent liaisons serve as a communication link between home and school. They welcome and orient families to the schools and familiarize the families with the school's cultures, policies, procedures, and practices.

What Can Parent Liaisons Do?

Because parent liaisons know a great deal about your child's school and community, they are a valuable resource for you. They can connect you with the appropriate people within the school or community who can help you meet you child's needs.

The parent liaisons establish and build successful working relationships with the families of all children in the school. They appreciate the school's cultural diversity and work to foster unity, cohesiveness, and cooperation among all families.

All parent liaisons are proficient in the English language; many speak one or more additional languages.

How Do Parent Liaisons Help Parents?

Parent liaisons provide services such as the following to assist you and your child:

Policies & Procedures

Chantilly High School

Chantilly High School has policies and procedures to provide structure and consistency in the daily operation of the school.

CHS Attendance Policy

Chantilly High School follows the guidelines established by the Fairfax County School Board, Policy 2232.2.

Starting with the third unexcused tardy to school, students are assigned consequences up to In-School Suspension.  Six or more tardies in a quarter to any class will prevent a student from being eligible for Charger In Good Standing.
