Introduction to Cosmetology (Cosmetology I)

Course Description- The two-year Cosmetology program provides an overview of the Cosmetology field and the opportunity to earn the state Cosmetology license. Students learn how to care for hair, skin and nails. Topics include basic hygiene, sanitation, styling, facials, makeup, manicure and pedicure, personal grooming, and fashion. The course also includes topics on the anatomy of the head, face, neck and arms. In a laboratory setting, students learn skills in hair styling and cutting, permanent waving, hair coloring, scalp and facial treatment, and manicures with an emphasis on safety, sanitation, professional ethics, and quality work. In addition, students operate a full-service salon that provides experience working with customers.
Cosmetology II

Course Description - The Cosmetology program is offered to students
in grades 11 and 12 who have completed Cosmetology I. Students use
a laboratory setting for the study of skin, hair, nails, and cosmetic
chemistry. Through practice, students achieve fundamental skills in
all phases of beauty culture. Students operate a full service salon
with the emphasis on safety, sanitation, professional ethics and quality
work. Students must meet the state's mandatory hourly requirement.
Students completing Cosmetology 2 and meeting the required 1,080 hours
may take the Virginia Cosmetology exam to qualify as a licensed cosmetologist.
Passing the exam is an excellent opportunity for a variety of employment
options in the cosmetology field.
