I’m excited to start the 2012-2013 school year! I am honored to have been chosen as the Principal of Centreville High School and to have the opportunity to lead such a great school and community. The hardworking and dedicated students and staff at Centreville High school have an outstanding reputation throughout Fairfax County and the entire Northern Region. Whether excelling in academic pursuits or participating in extra-curricular activities, I am confident that this school year will be a special year for your students. As we begin a new school year, we have a few topics that we need parents and students to pay special attention to as they pertain to safety and the start of the year.
As you may be aware, we added four modular classrooms in the back parking lot of the school which are referred to on your student’s schedule as the “Quad.” This addition was necessary as our student population continues to grow. While these classrooms are a great benefit, we will need to adjust our traffic pattern in order to maintain a safe environment for our students walking to their classes. Beginning this school year we have made the following adjustments:
1. There is no thru traffic via the back parking lot.
2. We have placed traffic barriers along both sides of the quad in order to provide a safe walking route for all of our students.
3. As always, please maintain slow driving speeds through the parking lots.
If your student was unable to pick up her/his schedule during the week of August 27th, they will be able to pick them up in the cafeteria on the first day of school. Schedules will be sorted by alphabet/counselor. It important that your child bring his/her completed and signed emergency care card and health information sheet. If your student has forgotten their schedule they may pick-up a copy in the student services office. Students will receive their locker assignment and combination in their first block class on the first day of school.
At the end of last year, our dismissal time was changed to 2:05 pm. Our instructional school day still begins at 7:25am with a warning bell at 7:20am. Please give yourself plenty of time in the morning with the large amount of traffic on Union Mill Rd.
Our staff and faculty have had a busy summer and productive work week preparing for the coming school year. Fall is a time for cooler weather, changing leaves, homecoming, and a fresh start. I hope all of your students are able enjoy the fall and turn our fresh start into a great year.
