As stipulated in FCPS regulation 1367.1, "all materials and information distributed within the schools shall relate to the schools' primary function, the education of students." Accordingly, the following procedures shall apply to all nonprofit organizations that want to make their materials available to students and parents at Centre Ridge Elementary.
1. On Tuesday, September 18, 2007 a special take home folder
will be sent home with all children. Nonprofit organizations wishing to have
their materials sent home with students are required to:
a. Submit materials to the principal for approval as to appropriateness of
the content. "Flyers and other community materials must be related to
the schools' educational mission, be directed to students, not be harmful
to children, be age-appropriate, and not be violations of current versions
of regulations."
b. Once approved, representatives of the nonprofit organizations are required
to coordinate with the school office a time prior to September 18, 2007 during
which nonprofit volunteers will place items into the student envelopes. Items
not placed into the envelopes by the nonprofit volunteers will be placed in
the school's community resource center only.
c. All nonschool, nongovernmental materials made available through the schools
shall include the following disclaimer, "These materials are neither
sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent,
or this school."
2. Nonprofit organizations whose materials meet the criteria
listed above and who wish to distribute the materials to the general population
may do so during the scheduled back to school nights (September 24 for grades
K, 1, 3, 5 and September 25 for grades 2, 4, 6) at Centre Ridge Elementary
under the following conditions:
a. Approval must be requested in writing to the principal one week prior to
the scheduled Back-to-School night. Requests must include name, address, phone
number of contact, copies of materials to be distributed annotated as stated
in 1.c and the number of table/chair requirements. Notification of approval
will be made by either phone or mail.
b. "Nonprofit organizations that staff tables at Back-to-School night
may not participate in the school's program of speakers or classroom activities."
c. "Nonprofit organizations may distribute their approved materials from
their tables but not elsewhere at Back-to-School night."
3. All materials received after the dates specified above and which meet the approval criteria as noted, will be placed in the school's community resource center only.
Regulation 1367.1 is available for review in the Centre Ridge
Elementary school office.
