Dear Cedar Lane Parents and Guardians,

As the newly elected President of the Cedar Lane Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), I want to let you know about plans for this school year.  Also, if you are not yet a member, I encourage you to join the team, by sending in a dues payment of $15 along with your registration form [Can it be hyperlinked to a pdf?].  If you are also able to add a little more to support the scholarship fund, that would be appreciated.

The Cedar Lane PTSA gives parents, teachers, students and the school administration an opportunity to work together to support the education and welfare of our high school children.  We are a small school with families located in different areas, and we parents and guardians of children with special needs are especially time-challenged.  Yet, I believe that if we are creative and focus on a few priorities, we can make a difference this year for our children and their school.

In reviewing the materials provided to me by the past president, and the national and state PTSA organizations, and after consultation with Principal Marshall, I suggest the following possible initiatives:

  • Raise funds to support the purchase of school technology (e.g., "smart boards")
  • Organize an interesting in-school program for students on a key topic (e.g., Whole Foods healthy eating with samples)
  • Arrange for a special needs educator to discuss strategies for supporting your child at home
  • Offer a small scholarship for a deserving senior for use in their future education or training
  • Sponsor a teacher/staff appreciation lunch
  • Facilitate the continued beautification of the school exterior and lobby

We will soon be sending a survey to PTSA members asking for their additinal ideas and priorities.

Given our limited resources, we will need to look to our personal and professional networks for donations of goods and services.  Please think about businesses you own, work for or frequent, and what they may be able to offer.  We may also accept a limited amount of advertising, too, so long as we don't become a for-profit business.

The PTSA Executive Board plans to use email and phone communications to conduct much of the PTSA business to maximize use of your valuable time.  Please be sure to provide us with a good email address and/or phone number when you register so that we may solicit your input.

Please check this website weekly for updates.  I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Marcia O.
