101 Cedar Lane, S.W./ Vienna, VA 22180/ Phone 703-208-2400Positive Behavior SupportCedar Lane School incorporates the use of Positive Behavior Support (PBS). Positive Behavior Support is a school-wide system that proactively defines, teaches, and supports the demonstration of appropriate student behaviors in an effort to create a positive school environment for both students and staff. At Cedar Lane, the three keys to student success are RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and POSITIVE ATTITUDE. These three keys have been operationally defined for both classroom and non-classroom settings as outlined below:
Students are recognized for demonstrating positive behaviors associated with respect, responsibility, and positive attitude using “Cedar Bucks”, the Cedar Lane currency. In turn, students can exchange “Cedar Bucks” for classroom and school wide privileges. Additionally, students can exchange “Cedar Bucks” for daily, weekly, and or monthly rewards and opportunities. The use of PBS enables Cedar Lane School students and staff to have a clear and consistent understanding of behavioral expectations, a systematic method of reinforcing the development and demonstration of positive behaviors, and a method collecting data that can be used in identifying school and student needs.
