Dear Students and Parents, The Cedar Lane community welcomes you to the 2009-2010 school year! Although the joys of summer have not fully concluded, it is time to start your transition into another exciting and rewarding school year. School begins on Tuesday, September 8th. We look forward to meeting our incoming students, as well as seeing our returning upperclassmen. I’m eager to hear about your summer experiences: a summer job which enhanced your career readiness skills, a summer vacation which provided new experiences and time with family and friends or did you take advantage of the great weather and relax while reading a good book. Many of you received a summer reading list from Cedar Lane or from your previous school in the month of June. Please remember to complete your summer reading requirement; there will be follow-up activities when you return to school…so be prepared. You will receive a call from Transportation Services at least 2 to 4 days before the start of school to inform you of your pick up location and time. Please remember, to arrive at your designated bus location at least 10 minutes early. We live in a very congested suburban area; please keep in mind the bus schedule is not an exact science. I’m sure you are excited about starting a new school year; the greatest gift is the opportunity given to each of us to “START OVER.” It is a new day and a new year; you can put forth your best effort. If you had prior stumbling blocks in school, let them go and move on to a bright and rewarding academic future. I encourage you to take time to think and reflect on the following questions before the beginning of the school year – “What goal do I want to achieve this school year?” and “What is my plan to ensure I am successful?” One tool you need to reach your goal is a “CAN DO ATTITUDE!” Last year many of our students set goals, worked closely with staff and had a positive attitude. As a result, they were very successful academically and socially at “The Lane.” Some of those same students have moved on to new endeavors through mainstreaming opportunities as well as returning to their base school. In June, 2009 we chartered the first Parent Teacher Student Association, PTSA, in the history of Cedar Lane School. I would like to take this time to thank the many individuals who served on the PTSA Planning Committee. It would not have been possible without the time and commitment of the following individuals: I also want to congratulate our newly elected Parent Teacher Student Association Officers. Ms. Miller and I look forward to working collaboratively with these individuals to enhance our school programs and opportunities: Important information and documents are included in this mailing. Please read each document and note the paperwork which requires your signature. Please return signed documents with your child or mail to Cedar Lane School as soon as possible. Your packet includes the following:
On behalf of the Cedar Lane staff, we extend to you our best wishes for a successful school year.
