Welcome to FECEP/Headstart at Cardinal Forest, where play is learning and learning is fun!  Sixteen, 4-year-old children from the Cardinal Forest neighborhood and some nearby schools attend this full-day program which utilizes the FCPS Pre-K Program of Studies to provide an education that is adaptable to each child’s needs, interests, and level of development. 

Children engage in a variety of learning experiences that meet individual and group needs, in the FECEP classroom, on field trips, and in art, music, library and physical education programs offered at Cardinal Forest. 

Parents, as their child’s first teachers, are encouraged to become involved in their child’s education through parent meetings and volunteer opportunities.  The program focuses on the whole child, including health screenings, nutrition, developmental assessments, and safety instruction. The Family and Early Childhood Education Program (FECEP) gives a Head Start to life-long learning.
