Robert E. Lee

Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807 to Lighthorse Harry Lee. He was educated at the U.S. Military Academy. At the beginning of the Civil War, President Lincoln asked Lee to command the Union army. Lee turned down the offer. He became commander for the Confederacy army instead. Lee was very loyal to his country, but he was even more loyal to his state. He fought many great battles including Antietam, Chancellorsville. Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. In April 1865, Lee surrendered to General Ulysses Simpson Grant in the Appomattax Court House, thus ending the Civil War.
