Natural Bridge
A very famous sight
in Virginia is the Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County. Tons of stone
form a bridge so strong that a highway now runs across it. It's 100
feet wide and 215 feet tall. Below the bridge Cedar Creek runs through
a gorge. No one really knows how the bridge was made but one answer
is given by geologists. They say that millons of years ago wind and
water shaped the stone into this arch. About 250 years ago, a man
named Thomas Jefferson liked the bridge so much he bought it from the King
of England at the price of 20 shillings, about $2.40, but no price tag
can equal its value.
