Harry Flood Byrd was born in 1887 in Martinsburg, VA. He
was the brother of Richard E. Byrd. He was educated in Shenandoah.
Harry Byrd was a Uniter States Senator from Virginia. He had been the governor
before, so he was well known. He led Virginia's law makers in the Massive
Resistance. This forced many schools to close in protest against integration
of black and white students. He died in 1966.
