Volcano

A volcano is a mountainous vent in the Earth’s crust.  When a volcano erupts, it spews out lava, ashes, and hot gases from deep inside the Earth.  Magma is molten rock within the Earth’s crust.  When magma erupts through the Earth’s surface it is called lava.  Complex systems such as volcanoes transfer energy and volcanic fluids through the Earth, which leads to volcanic activity.  People who study volcanoes are called volcanologists.  A volcano forms and erupts when a magma chamber under the ground gets so full it explodes!  When the magma explodes out of the volcano it forms streams of lava.  When the magma comes out of a volcano it becomes lava.  Volcanoes are very dangerous when they erupt.  Some of the volcanoes on the Earth are in Hawaii.
