Robert E. Lee

Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807. He was born in Stratford, Virginia. His father was a hero in the Revolutionary war. His father lost tons of money in bad land deals. Lee had to move into a much smaller house. When Lee was six his father left to the West Indies. Since his father left he had to do the chores. In 1825 Lee went to the military academy at west point. He became a lieutenant in the U.S. army. He married Mary Rudolf Custis. He was a scout who patrolled enemy territory. In the year 1852 he was announced superintendent of west point. Lee hoped there would not be war when the confederates left the country. In the battle of Gettysburg thousands of people died and many more were injured. Robert E. Lee died on October 12, 1870. He was remembered by both the north and south. |
