Thomas Jefferson was a very successful man! Thomas was born on April 2nd, 1743 in Albemarle County, VA. His parents were Jane and Peter. He was the third out of eight children. He had six sisters and one brother. As a young boy he enjoyed reading, playing violin and studying. He began school when he was five with a tutor named William Douglas. He was tutored at Dover church. He learned Latin, Greek, French and math. When he was nine the calendar changed which moved his birthday to April 13th. He was very generous and often took in the poor. Thomas Jefferson was a very important American. Jefferson had many careers such as an architect, the 3rd president, an inventor, vice president, a surveyor, and many more. He designed and lived in a very famous house called Monticello. We call him 'The Father of Our Democracy' because he freed us from England by drafting The Declaration of Independence. He was so great, that we even named a college after him. Thomas Jefferson was very remarkable!! |
