The New England Colonies had a very different economy from the other two regions. They relied on the ocean for trade since they had bad soil for crops. The New England colonies used the forests to make ships. It was very cold in the winter so they got imports of cloth from England. The colonies also fished and whaled. The colonists used blubber from whales instead of candles. The colonists in the New England Colonists relied on their natural resources to create their wealth.

The main part of the Mid Atlantic Colonies' economy was farming. The region had good soil and flat land. The flatland was also good for live stock. They also used the trees for building ships. They would trade with England. They had skilled workers that needed certain resources. In the Mid Atlantic Colonies relied on the land for their economy.

The Southern colonies had rich soil. This led to huge plantations. They relied on cash crops for money. Rice, indigo, and tobacco were sent to England as exports. They used forests to make ships for trading. The people who lived in the Southern colonies became very rich.
