U is for umbrella.  The Chinese introduced the umbrella almost 2,000 years ago.  People in China hand made umbrellas out of oiled paper and bamboo.  The Chinese called the umbrella "karakasas".  Umbrellas were used to keep the rain off of their silk robes and to keep the sun off of their faces.  Chinese umbrellas are still handmade today.
