| Cameron Elementary School serves a community of vastly diverse backgrounds, cultures, and economic conditions. Through this diversity, Cameron Elementary School students come together to learn from each other and to promote the school's theme, "The Quality of Future Starts Here." The staff, students, and community share a common bond and vision toward building a school environment committed to academic excellence through a nurturing and caring environment that enables students to become all they can be both now and in the future. Cameron's curriculum is based on the Virginia Standards of Learining and the FCPS Program of Studies and includes focus on the writing process, a hands-on approach to teaching mathematics, and an integrated language arts program. This core curriculum helps students become better problem solvers, creative thinkers, and lifelong learners. Students' math, writing, and spelling skills are reinforced through individualized daily assignments and work times. Cameron continues to initiate and support new ways of reaching youngsters in their academic pursuits through the various field trips that the school sponsors, the school's commitment to the use of technology (SMARTboards, netbooks, mobile laptop labs, Blackboard 24/7 Learning, etc.), and unique assembly programs. Cameron is proud to have formed active business-school partnerships with the Women's Club of Springfield and the Kingstowne Walmart, sponsored student teaching and student field experience activities with Marymount University and George Mason University, and established a summer school program that enriches and extends the students' regular academic year. Cameron is truly a busy place with students who are proud of their achievements and who are anxious to succeed and enjoy their learning and school experience. |
