Mission Statement

The mission of the Burke Media Center is to support students' learning, reading, and overall academic and intellectual growth through the use of books, magazines, computers, and other information sources. The Media Center supports the curriculum and classroom learning at Burke Center by actively engaging students in research and reading activities. In a society that is becoming increasingly dependent on technology, students learn how to locate and evaluate information by utilizing the Media Center. The staff motivates students to be active learners by advocating activities which promote reading for their individual enjoyment and education.

Circulation Policy

• Books can be checked out for 3 weeks.

• Books can be renewed as long as there is not a waitlist for it.

• Students can check out up to 3 books at a time.

Inter-Library Loan Policy

• If a student is looking for a particular book that we do not have we can borrow it from another Fairfax County Public School if they have it.

• Books that are Inter-Library loaned cannot be renewed.

Student Lunch Bunch

Every day during lunch, seventh and eighth grade students bring their lunch to the library and listen to Mrs. Mathews read a book. This is a very popular program at Burke School.

Mrs. Mathews has the usernames and passwords for the databases.
