The Level System

All students enter the Burke Community on the same level. This first level is called "Entry". While on Entry, students become comfortable with their behavioral standards and they begin to learn what is expected of them within this community. Staff members are responsible for making sure that every student has individual standards that are right for him/her. Students demonstrate that they are learning effective strategies to help them be positive community members by earning 70 percent of their points. On the Entry Level a student who earns 70 percent of his/her daily points is given credit for that day. If a student can earn 70 percent of their points for the entire week it is called a credit week. Every credit week that a student earns will move him or her up a step towards the next level.

Students who achieve two credit weeks in a row (Entry step 1 and Entry step 2) move from Entry level up to Professional level. Students on Professional level have more privileges than students on Entry level do. This is because they have demonstrated that he or she can be a responsible community member. To stay on the Professional level, students must continue to earn at least 70 percent of their weekly points. If they are not able to earn 70 percent of their weekly points then they go back one step to Entry step 2. Each week that the student can earn 80 percent of their weekly points they move up one step towards the Executive level.

Students on Executive level have a lot more privileges than those on Entry or Professional do. They are allowed to buy more things at the school store and they have a wider variety of special activities to choose from -- some of which take place off school grounds. There are three steps at the Executive level. To move up through these steps towards the Director level students need to earn weekly averages of at least 90% of their points.

The highest level that a student can achieve within our community is the Director level. Students on Director have access to all the school privileges and can buy anything sold in the school store. To move from Executive to Director, students must earn at least 90 percent of their behavior points for three weeks in a row. Students on Director are considered student leaders and are expected to achieve at least a 90 percent average every week. As with other levels, students will drop back one step each week that they are not able to meet the 90% expectation.
