Our Counselors

Mrs. Buckley and Mrs. Doss are our counselors at Bull Run.  They are trained, licensed and caring professionals who help students achieve academic success.  Our counselors talk with children, teachers, parents - everyone.  They are also very good listeners.  Mrs. Buckley and Mrs. Doss work with individual students, small groups of students and with whole classes on a variety of issues and topics.  These topics may include peer relationships, general guidance skills, study skills or just listening and working with a child with a specific need.  The counseling program is designed to support and complement the efforts of your child's classroom teacher.  As with everyone at Bull Run, Mrs. Buckley and Mrs. Doss are here to help your child do their best!

Qualifications of an Elementary School Guidance Counselor

An elementary school guidance counselor is required to have a master's degree in education with a specialization in Student Personnel Services.  In addition, the counselor must have Virginia State certification and a state Pupil Personnel License.  Both Mrs. Buckley and Mrs. Doss received their Master's Degrees from Virginia Tech.
