To our returning families and our newcomers welcome! Our location near the historic Manassas Battlefield Park and the high technology Dulles corridor provides a fitting bridge from our past to the future. As staff and parents work together, we provide an education for each child that prepares them for the future with a strong academic foundation. This foundation is literacy based and includes a strong component of the fine arts, technology and social skills to prepare them to become responsible citizens as adults.
Together we believe that children are our most important resource and each child is given ample opportunities to reach their highest potential. Having a full-time gifted and talented resource teacher provides the enrichment opportunities needed for all of the students in grades K-6. The instructional staff members and resource specialists collaborate to plan instruction that promotes critical thinking and problem solving skills and to differentiate the instruction to meet the needs of all students while maintaining high expectations.
We are also fortunate that Bull Run Elementary also serves identified students in grades 3-6 in the Advanced Academic Program and provides special education services to all students with disabilities including a center for autism. Both an inclusive setting as well as the use of small group settings is used to meet the needs of students through the recommendations of the individualized education program teams.
As we prepare our children for the future, emphasis is placed on maximizing and integrating the available technology with the instructional program. Smartboards and laptop computers are used to enhance instruction and improve the academic performance of students in mathematics, science, social studies and integrated language arts. A Weather Bug Station is used by teachers to integrate science and mathematics to support science studies. An interactive learning lab along with classroom computers are used by classroom teachers and our technology specialist to provide opportunities to integrate technology with the curriculum as well as offer multiple means for students to present assignments.
As a diverse school community, Bull Run offers the opportunity for staff, parents and students to expand their knowledge of the characteristics and contributions that we each have to offer. Our parents are an important part of the school as they support their child’s education by not only making sure that assignments are completed but through volunteering to work with children and teachers in the classroom, as well as committing to the PTA and supporting the many extra activities that we are so fortunate to provide. It is a partnership of school and family as we “take education by the horns" that ensure that our children are excited about learning and are prepared not only for today but for the future.
Sincerely,
Deborah D. Miller, Principal
