Members of the Young Architects Club and the I-TEAM were extremely fortunate to have been invited to the construction site of the new Wilson Bridge. It allowed them to have first hand knowledge on how architects work. After the visit, students wrote about the experience from the bridge's point of view. A few of them are printed below for your enjoyment.
Hi! My name is the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. I was born in 1887 and over 200,000 people, cars and trucks pass over me every day. When I was built, I was so excited. It felt good when the first few cars passed over me. I am glad I was built.
Hello! I am the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and this is my story. I would tell you how old I am but I am so old that I forgot when I was first made. At first, I wasnt used to cars and trucks driving over me. But many years have passed and Im much better. I like being a bridge because I have the best view of boats going under me and jets, airplanes and helicopters flying over me. In 2011, another bridge connection will be finished. Then I will have company.
Hi! Im the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and I would like to tell you about me. People ride bikes over me and many cars and trucks pass over me everyday. I am between Virginia and Maryland. When cars and trucks go over me, it feels like a massage on my back. I was named after the 28th President of the United States.
