Band and Strings Concert

The end of the school year is the time our students like to show how much they have learned. The students and faculty were treated to an excellent concert on Tuesday, June 14.

The beginning 4th grade strings, led by Ms. Shannon Cruise, began the program with a tune familiar to all of us - "Are you Sleeping" followed by "Lightly Row". They ended with an English round and the Can-Can....quite impressive playing for only one year of violin instruction. Then the advanced strings performed a piece called the "Happy Dance". After a brief demonstration of the various string instruments, the violin producing the highest sounds and the cello the lowest, they ended with a piece "Tomahawk." The plucking of the strings added a realistic mood. String instruments are not easy to learn to play, but these students showed quite an aptitude for the music and technique. Congratulations!! Well done!!

Violins make the highest notes.
Cellos make the low sounds.

There are forty-one fifth and sixth grade students in the band. They began with a the rousing music of a march, "Gallant March" followed by "First Rock Tune" The audience was rocking and clapping to the tunes. Next the band did a discordant piece calle "Shark Attack". There was no missing the fact that a shark was about to attack but was defeated in the end. The next piece "Dragon Slayers" was like cartoon or movie music. Finally Ms. Ammariti demonstated the various instruments and encouraged students to join band next year if interested. The assembly ended with our favorite piece, "LET'S GO BAND".

I'm sure there will be lots of recruits next year. Playing an instrument looks like lots of fun!
