Mentors & Mentees

Bucknell-West Potomac Mentoring Partnership

The Bucknell-West Potomac Mentoring Partnership is designed to provide support to many of our students. West Potomac High School students are trained to serve as peer mentors for the younger students.

Our Mission: To develop positive, caring relationships between high school and elementary students.

Our Goal: To promote academic success and instill a greater sense of responsibility, compassion, and self-confidence in all students.

What the mentors had to say:

“I hope this program continues to grow and expand. I feel that it truly makes a difference in these kids’ lives; my involvement has been nothing short of spectacular and amazing.”

“I really love the program…wish I had one more year. Very, very, very great match…thank you!”

What the mentees had to say:

“My mentor supported me by coming to a Bucknell event.”

“She helped me with things I needed to improve in.”

“He helped me with my homework.”

2007-2008 Program Survey Results

95% of the mentees felt better about themselves after participating in the program.

  • 95% of the Bucknell students reported that participation in the program helped improve their grades.
  • 100% of the mentors said they had a good or excellent relationship with their mentee.
  • 95% of the West Potomac mentors reported that participating in the program helped them see the positive impact that they could have on the community.
