Landmark
Career Academy is an
FCPS business and community partnership located in the Landmark
Shopping Mall that offers
highly motivated students a unique opportunity to complete a
high school diploma, learn about the business world, and
gain career
entry or college acceptance upon graduation. Students complete
FCPS-approved high school courses through an individualized,
self-paced
curriculum in which each student takes responsibility for his
or her work and ultimate success.
Our mission is
to provide an opportunity for students who are 16 years of
age or older to complete a high
school diploma, learn about the business world, explore different
careers, learn job skills by interning at various businesses,
and gain career entry employment upon graduation. Through a
partnership with Landmark Mall, TRAC/USA®, and the Fairfax
County
Public Schools, LCA provides a school-to-work transition program.
Many graduates of LCA continue on to higher education.
An important component of the LCA program is theTRAC® program. TRAC®
is a one credit training course designed by industry and education
professionals that combines work-based & school-based components
to develop employment skills and opportunities. Students gain
core skills that transfer to any career field, and industry
skills that are specific to three broad fields (i.e. customer
service in retail and hospitality, travel & tourism, and
commercial services office skills). Through a series of hands-on
internships, students learn by working with employer-mentors
at their workplaces. The program also includes field visits,
panel discussions, and group and individual assignments. A majority
of the learning in TRAC® occurs with and is assessed by work-based
mentors. |
