Project Opportunity

Project Opportunity at Bryant Adult Alternative High School is a high school completion program for pregnant or parenting young women in Fairfax County. It serves high school students. The program is operated by Fairfax County Public Schools. Project Opportunity was established in 1987 with a grant from the Virginia Department of Education. Annually it serves approximately 120-150 girls; 25-35 of which graduate in a given year. In 1999 and again in 2003, Project Opportunity earned a PEPNet (Promising and Effective Practices) award. It is only one of two teen parenting programs to receive this award. The program and staff members have developed and maintained a variety of essential partnerships with local, state, and national organizations.

Seniors and other eligible students in Project Opportunity are also enrolled in the "Jobs for Virginia Graduates" program. This component focuses on preparing potential graduates for the post-secondary world of school and work. The parent program "Jobs for America's Graduates" (JAG) has been successfully implemented in hundreds of American schools since 1979.

Project Opportunity also provides:

  • Group and individual counseling
  • Parenting classes
  • Job Readiness & Life Skills Training
