Braddock Elementary

Couselors' Page
The mission of the Braddock Elementary Counseling Department is to support and enhance the learning process by helping students maximize their potential in three domains: academic development; college/career development; and personal/social development. We work with children in classroom guidance lessons, in small groups, and with individuals.
Classroom Guidance

Counselors conduct classroom guidance lessons twice a month for each classroom. Each month we have a “Word of the Month” that is our focus for the school. Our lessons focus on the “Word of the Month”, teachers utilize the word of the month through curriculum, and we discuss it in our parent newsletter.

This year’s “Word of the Month
September- Assertiveness
October- Perseverance
November- Responsibility
December- Generosity
January- Cooperation
February- Friendship
March- Empathy
April- Trustworthiness
May- Self Control
June- Citizenship

Small Group Counseling

Some services are provided in small groups. Parent permission is required.
Some group possibilities are:

~Social skills for positive school performance
~
Divorce/family changes

Individual Counseling

The counselors are available to talk to all students about concerns at home, in school, and with friends.

What does the counseling program provide for parents?

~A positive relationship between school and home fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of children. You can contact us if you have concerns for your child.
~Counselors invite parents to meet with them concerning their child.
~Inform parents of situations or behaviors that may harm their child or harm others
~Obtain parental consent before proceeding with on-going counseling.
~Offer parenting skills courses
~Conduct workshops of interest to parents
~Provide referral information about community resources
~Protect the privacy of information shared by parents and students
~It is our belief that by working together as a team with parents we can best address students' needs. We are here to support parents with their questions and concerns about their children, and have some helpful resources to share as well.
