Reading is Fundamental (RIF)
Reading Is FUNdamental (RIF) is a federally-funded literacy program designed to prepare and motivate children to read. Belvedere’s PTA provides local matching funds, which allow us to distribute free books to our students at least three times a year. In addition to choosing a book of their own to keep, our students enjoy a special program at each distribution that is designed to encourage reading. Belvedere students love RIF – just check out the smiles on their faces when we announce that it’s RIF Week!
First Books
In the 2011-12 school year, one of our Belvedere parents (Natasha Boswell) secured a Family Literacy grant through First Books for our school. Belvedere received $250 plus a $50 rebate that enabled us to buy more than 80 new books for the library. The focus of the purchases was on hardback books that would withstand multiple circulations. Belvedere is very appreciative to Natasha and KPMG LLP for these new additions to the library collection.
