Today's Tip for Parents | Ideas for Parents

Phone Messaging System

We are pleased to announce that in addition to our e-mail communications we are now able to broadcast automated messages by phone. We will be using this system to notify you in the event of school wide activities and critical announcements only as they relate to Belvedere and not Fairfax County as a whole. Fairfax County Public Schools still holds the responsibility for notification in the event of system wide emergencies (such as an early closing, delay, or general closing).

Every family is automatically registered through their child's record in the student information sysytem; therefore, it is very important that your phone numbers and e-mail be updated immediately if there are any changes. Families have the ability to opt our of contact if they wish. Opt out forms are available in the school's office.

The phone system has the ability to call out very quickly. The phone system may reach out in other languages according to our ability to translate. Our most frequent language will be Spanish and will be spoken immediately following the English announcement. We request of our Spanish speaking families that they listen to the entire English message which will be followed by the message in Spanish.

School Closing Information / FCPS Emergency Announcements

There are several ways to determine if FCPS schools/facilities are closed:

1. Listen to your local television and radio stations for information regarding the cancellation of community activities at FCPS sites.
2. FCPS cable channel 21 on Cox cable.
3. FCPS website: www.fcps.edu and refer to the Emergency Announcements. (It is highly recommended that you register through the FCPS “Keep In Touch” program to receive school closing announcements via email)

Absences or Tardiness

Regular and on-time attendance is expected of each student. The Code of Virginia requires that any student with five or more unexcused absences be referred to the school attendance officer. Further unexcused absences will result in a petition to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. The principal, school social worker, and school attendance officer also monitor student tardiness. If your child will be absent, it is essential that parents call the Belvedere attendance line at 703-916-6868 before 9:00 a.m. to report the absence and reason. Absences that are not confirmed with the school by parents will be recorded as unexcused.

Any student arriving tardy must enter the building through the front doors and go directly to the office.

School Age Child Care

School Age Child Care (SACC) cares for children before and after school in Fairfax County elementary schools. Sports, games, recreational activities, and field trips are also an integral part of the child-focused curriculum at each SACC center. A complete list of schools that provide SACC is available (PDF format) at http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/service/ofc/Sacc.htm.
