FLES---Foreign Language in the
Elementary Schools
Beech Tree has completed its first year of Arabic with
the first grade students. In the 2008-2009 school year
we will be adding second grade as well.
The FLES program is based on
four thematic units at each grade level. The themes are
aligned with the FCPS Foreign Language Program of Studies
for Grades 7-12 and mirror the spiraling progression of
the other content areas. The FLES program is also aligned
with the National Foreign Language Standards.
Our First Grade students will
be following a theme of My Daily Life which focuses on
such topics as Seasons, Days, Months, and Calendar as
related to daily activities and familiar surroundings.
