Bailey's Values Its Parents

The relationships forged between Bailey's and its parents allow us to be able to support each student to continually grow and thrive in his or her ability to understand, express, inquire, and connect. Parents provide a crucial element that supplements the learning day. Parents' involvement at home with their child validates the beliefs, concepts, and focus that are taught at Bailey's. Additionally, we welcome parent volunteers into the school to lend much needed helping hands and words of encouragement to students.  Lastly, parents bring resources to Bailey's that would be a challenge if not impossible for us to obtain otherwise.  Parents, we thank you for all that you do!

IMPORTANT REMINDER
Bailey’s Magnet Application Process
2010-2011

For in-boundary students:
Parents of children of preschool age who live in our school boundary who would like their child to be in the two-way Spanish language Kindergarten class must notify the office before March 1st.  Parents of in-boundary current kindergarteners who want their child to be in Spanish Immersion in 1st grade must notify the office by March 1, 2010 (unless their child was in the two-way Spanish language class in kindergarten).  Availability for this program will be determined in April.  Submission of the name is required but does not guarantee enrollment in the immersion program.

For out of boundary students:
Parents of Bailey’s students who also have siblings who will be in K or 1st next year and want their younger child to attend Bailey’s next year must submit an application to the Leis Center by March 1, 2010.  On the application be sure to check “Yes” for Spanish Immersion if you are interested in either the kindergarten two-way Spanish class or the 1st grade Spanish Immersion class.  Availability for this program will be determined in April.  Submission of the application is required but does not guarantee enrollment in the immersion program.

The applications are available on the www.fcps.edu website or on the Bailey’s homepage: http://www.fcps.edu/BaileysES/ .  They are also available here in the school office.  .  If you have any questions, please contact Marjorie McCarthy at 703-575-6836.  Please share this information with your neighbors.

Advanced Academic (Formerly Gifted and Talented) Level IV Center Referrals due Feb 5th, 2010

At this time of the year, referrals are accepted for students to be considered for placement in a full-time Advanced Academic Program (Level IV) at a Center school (Bailey's has Advanced Academic program services through Level III, but not Level IV). These students are chosen through a central selection process and receive a highly challenging instructional program in the four core subject areas.

Each fall, all second graders, as well as students in grades 3-5 who are missing an ability test score, are given the Cognitive Ability Test and/or Naglieri Nonverbal Test. A second grade screening pool for Level IV Center services is established based on these test results. Second graders who are in the pool have been notified and are automatically screened for Level IV placement. Second graders not in the screening pool and all third through fifth graders are screened only by referral.

Parents/Guardians of students not in the second grade screening pool and parents of students in grades 3-5 may initiate a Center referral by completing and submitting an Advanced Academic Parent Information Packet Referral Form to Bailey's Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Sally Buzzell, no later than February 5th, 2010. It is important to note that no late referrals will be accepted.

Advanced Academic Parent Information Referral Packets are available online at http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/packet/ParentInformationPacketFCPS.pdf and in the front office at Bailey's. For additional information contact Sally Buzzell at smbuzzell@fcpcs.edu or at 703-575-6842.
