Students mediators are 5th grade students who have been trained to help their peers resolve their conflicts. This program helps the student mediators develop leadership skills, learn problem solving techniques that are applicable to many situations, and gain self-esteem due to positive status among peers. The Student Mediators help the student body assume greater responsibility for solving their own problems without the help of an adult, learn problem solving skills through participating in the mediation process, and show students the example of positive peer role models.
Frances Lieb, ATES Counselor, supervises and trains the mediators, and is present at all mediation sessions. Feel free to contact her by email or phone (703-658-5683) if you have any questions.
