All students taking Science Honor courses are required to participate in the AHS Science Fair. Volunteers judge the student's projects and determine which projects will go on to the Fairfax County Public Schools Regional Science Fair.
The Group 4 project is an interdisciplinary activity in which all IB Diploma Program science students must participate.(Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems and Design Technology) The goal of the Group 4 Project is to help our students come to appreciate the environmental, social, and ethical implications of science. It should also help them to understand the limitations of scientific study (e.g. lack of appropriate data and/or resources). The emphasis of the Group 4 project is on interdisciplinary cooperation and the processes involved in scientific investigation. The intention is that students analyze a topic or problem that can be investigated in all of the science disciplines offered here at Annandale High School.

April 25th is National DNA Day, and a “DNA Day Ambassador” from NIH comes to Annandale to give a presentation to interested science classes on topics related to DNA. In addition, for the first time this year we had a school-wide “DNA Week” celebration, during the week of April 25th. This included a fund-raiser for cystic fibrosis, daily DNA quizzes, and information cards on different genetic disorders that were handed out to students and faculty each day.
