Lesson 1: CO2 race car
How to make a CO2 Race Car:
- Step No. 1: Thumbnail Sketches Draw multiple small, quick, sketchy thumbnails about anything in particular, mostly car designs, on a sheet of loose leaf paper. They need not be artistically perfect, or even have great detail. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be neat. The entire purpose of this step is for you to capture your ideas on to the paper.
- Step No. 2: Rough Sketches Rough Sketches are more detailed drawings than Thumbnails. They should still be sketches, but they should be neat, and have more detail. Choose your best two or three thumbnails and choose which one you want to make. Then create each view iof your thumbnail. Complete a top and side view for both of your chosen Thumbnails.
- Step No. 3: Drilling Axle Holes Use a 3/16” drill bit, and drill the front and rear axle holes of your balsa wood
- Step No. 4: Cutting Using a bandsaw, carefully cut out the outline of the side view. Then follow your plan to cut out the top view. Make sure not to cut extensively or else it will not work.
- Step No. 5: Shaping Carefully use a rasp, wood file and sandpaper to round and smooth your race car. Make sure all sharp edges have been scraped off.
- Step No. 6: Painting Place your CO2 race car into a pole to use as a handle or grip. Now you can now begin to paint your race car without getting your hands messy. Paint using any color you wish.
- Step No. 7: Axles: Using the steel axles provided and wheels place each at both ends and then push tightly to secure the axles. Now you are ready to test your Race car against other classmates.
Other necessary materials will be provided.
