Boys and Girls State

Boys State - June 17 – 23 at Liberty University
Girls State - June 17 – 23 at Longwood University
Boys and Girls State applications are to be sent to Ms. Templer at Nancy.Templer@fcps.edu. The deadline is Friday, January 20th at 3pm.
You must complete your resume in Family Connection before sending your essay, (Part 2), and senior plan, (Part 3). The resume can be found within the tab labeled "ABOUT ME". In all resume categories be as specific and detailed as possible. Use the Description/Comments box extensively so that you fully market yourself effectively.
Click on either the Girls or Boys State essay sheet provided and type your essay on that one sheet in 12 point font. Write your essay on the following question:
What is the individual's role as a citizen and as a leader in today's diverse American Society?
Please note that a copy of your transcript, discipline record and resume will be attached to your essay. Only faculty members will read your essay and review your transcript and discipline record. However, if you are selected, a copy of your essay and activity sheet only will be forwarded to the American Legion sponsors.
Please right click on the link to the Word document and left click on Save Target As; save it to your computer. Make sure that you select Save As and save it using your last name and first name in the name of the document. For example: Templer_Nancy_Essay.doc. If you do not have Word at home, you may need to use a school computer to do the work.
On one (1) page only using 12 point font, answer the question below.
Boys and Girls State will give those students attending knowledge of the American governmental and political system plus leadership skills training. If you are selected to attend Boys or Girls State, how will you use what you learn at Boys or Girls State to promote the American system of government at Annandale High School?
