Providing in-depth academic, social, and emotional support to assist students in living up to their potential.

This college preparatory program is designed for students who have struggled academically but have the ability, desire, dedication, and drive for academic success.

Small Learning Community

SAM is organized as a small learning community, a school within a school. SAM is a place where students and teachers learn to work together in a positive and nurturing community while developing a team spirit among the students, the four core subject teachers, the SAM counselor, and the administrator.

Commitment: The Three Partners

For a teen to benefit from the SAM program there must be a three-way partnership. Students must put forth effort, parents must encourage and support their child, and teachers must nurture a student's academic development and be available for additional instruction. Success in SAM is inevitable if the three partners commit to a child's academic success.

Additional SOL and Test Preparation

The SAM program aims to help students succeed on the rigorous Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) Tests. Saturday and after school "Boot Camps" are offered to the students in preparation for the testing.

Aiming for College

The 9th grade begins four years of preparation for college. Students in the SAM program visit colleges, take career assessments, participate in SAT preparation, and carefully select courses to prepare for successful admission into college.

Extended Day

The SAM program provides additional help, enrichment activities, and test preparation beyond the regular school day.

Individualized Counseling

The counselor works closely with each student. The student's academic, social, and behavioral needs are monitored carefully. The counselor serves as an important bridge between the students, teachers, and home.
