W4 & Atom Time

W4

The purpose of W4 is to establish a time in the school day to accomplish administrative tasks without interrupting instructional time.  This is also an opportunity for students to form a positive relationship with another adult in the school building.  All Annandale teachers will have a W4 class; the students are assigned to teachers by alpha and grade level.  The typical class size ranges from 14-17 students.  Special Education students have been assigned to their Case Mangers.  Teachers will keep the same students for all four years of high school.

W4 occurs during second block on “White” days from 8:53am to 9:23am.  During W4, all administrative material will be taken care of, including but not limited to, the announcements and pledge, Atom time assignments, interim/report card distribution, and form collection.  In addition, prepared school wide lesson plans may also be given by the W4 teacher during this time.  It is important to note that W4 teachers will not be required to develop any lesson plans or grading during this time.

ATOM Time

ATOM Time will follow W4 on “White Days” and will be held from 9:30am-10:21am.  This time will be used for intervention, enrichment, club meetings, and special activities.  Students will be divided into three categories to determine their placement/choices for participation in ATOM Time: ATOMS in good standing, ATOMS not in good standing and Directed Students.

Placements for ATOM time will occur seven times throughout the school year and coincides with the end/beginning of the reporting period.
