Personal Electronic Devices (PED) Policy

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to assisting students and staff in creating a 21st century learning environment in efforts to support this progress, students and staff will now be able to access our wireless network with their personal devices (laptops, netbooks, tablets, smartphones, etc) during the school day.  Students may register and use their own devices to access the internet and collaborate with other students.  By allowing students to use their own technology at school, we are increasing our students’ access to the technology they need to succeed.

Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, students are permitted to bring their own electronic devices to school for use to support instruction at Annandale High School. Use of student-owned devices is restricted to instructional activities under the direct supervision of a staff member. Students using privately owned electronic devices must follow the policy stated in the Acceptable Use Policy while on school property, attending school-sponsored activities, or using the FCPS network.

Students are reminded that using their Personal Electronic Device (PED) is a privilege and it is the classroom teacher or supervising staff member’s discretion to allow students to use their device during instructional time (regular classroom time, W4, Atom Time, and freshman transition period).  Students may also use their device during non-instructional time (non-directed students during Atom Time, Library, and lunch time).  Students shall not use their device for personal communication (phone calls or texting) during the school day.

The following two forms need to be completed. The technology team will be in the cafeteria to collect the forms and put the small FCPS sticker on the device.

A county sticker will be put on the device so that teachers can identify the devices that have the proper permissions. Students will not be allowed to use their devices at school without the getting the forms completed and having a sticker on their device.

Registration will be in the Cafeteria after school from 2:00 to 2:30 on the following days:

 

November 7th and 19th

December 5 and 19

January 9 and 30
