Citations for Databases

 

Databases offer material from different sources, but mainly from magazines, scholarly journals, newspapers, reference sources and books.

 

CheckmarkIf you want to cite an article from a reference source or an excerpt from a book use the following MLA (Modern Language Association of America) format:

Author’s name. “Title of the Article.” Original Source of the Article.

Editor’s name. Publisher information (city: publisher, date). Name of

Database Used. Name of the Service. AHS Library, Annandale, VA.

Date of access <URL of service’s homepage>.

CheckmarkIf some information is not available, leave it out and go on to the next piece of information you can find.

Example: Johnson, Robert K. "Robert Frost." Discovering Authors. Detroit: Gale Group,

2003. Student Resource Center. Thomson Gale. AHS Library,

Annandale, VA. 16 May 2006 <http://galenet.galegroup.com>.

CheckmarkIf you want to cite an article from a magazine, journal or newspaper use the following MLA format:

Author's name. "Title of the Article." Original Source of Article volume

and issue number (Date of original source): page numbers. Name of the

Database Used. Name of the Service. Name of Library or Library

System, City, State Abbreviation. Date of access <URL of service's

homepage>.

CheckmarkIf some of the information is not available, leave it out and provide the next piece of information you can find.
