Students are required to take their IB exams on the day and time scheduled. Because these exams are given across the world it is not possible to reschedule or to schedule make-up exams. Students are required to complete all assessment components for each course in order to receive the .5 weighted grade from Fairfax County and to receive a score for their IB course from the IB organization. If any component is missing for a subject the student receives an N (No grade) from IB. An N in any course for an IB Diploma Candidate means the student is ineligible to earn the diploma. In short, students must attend their IB exams! Plan ahead and do not schedule appointments for the dates of your IB exams. If you have any questions contact the IB Diploma Program Coordinator, Shirley Campbell at Shirley.Campbell@fcps.edu .
How much is the AP/IB test fee? $75.00 per exam
Do students eligible for free/reduced priced meals have to pay AP/IB exam fees? NO. FCPS will pay the exam costs for all students eligible for free/reduced priced meals. In order to receive this benefit, it is important that parents/guardians return the proper forms to Gatehouse Suite 4100, Attention: Gabriela Ramos. Refer to the Free Reduced Meals Eligibility Letter at http://commapps.fcps.edu/memos/2010-11/forattachments/07-14-10-P-NewStudentFeesAttachment.pdf

Student Fees Parent Guardian Letter http://commapps.fcps.edu/memos/memodate.cfm, posted on 7/14/10, and Letter Sent to Principals http://commapps.fcps.edu/memos/2010-11/forMemos/07-14-10-P-NewStudentFees.pdf
Does the $75 test fee cover the entire cost of the exam? NO. The test fees collected will be used to pay for part, but not all of the costs associated with AP/IB testing. FCPS will pay for AP/IB test fees and exam administration costs not covered by the $75.00 test fee.
How will AP/IB test fees be assessed and collected? A central billing and fee collection process has been developed by the Office of the Comptroller, Department of Financial Services to manage the invoicing and collection of AP/IB test fees. The central AP/IB test billing and fee collection process applies to all exams a student will be required to take for courses in which they are enrolled for the 2010-11 school year.
Who should parents contact with billing questions? For billing questions, parents will be directed to contact the Financial Support Team (571.423.3636, option 2.). A Family Gram message about new fees (athletic & AP/IB) has been sent out and information about fees will also be on the FCPS website under Parent Resources.
When are AP/IB test fees due? The centrally generated invoices will be mailed on November 30, 2010 and AP/IB test fee payment is due within 30 days of billing.
Do students auditing a course have to take the exam and pay the test fee? YES. If a student is considered enrolled in an AP/IB course they are expected to pay the fee and take the exam.
Should parents/students bring money to school to pay for test fees prior to receiving the centrally generated invoice? Parents/students are strongly encouraged to wait and pay AP/IB test fees AFTER they receive the official invoice for their student(s) in early December 2010.
What should parents/students do if the centrally generated invoice they receive in November is lost or misplaced prior to making payment? The Department of Financial Services has provided blank general remittance advices and pre-addressed envelopes to each school.
Parents/students should contact the AP Test Coordinator to request a remittance advice, invoice number and pre-addressed envelope and then follow the instructions to properly submit payment. Students should see their school counselor if they are unsure who serves as the AP Test Coordinator.
What happens if a student enrolled in AP/IB course(s) does not pay the test fee(s)? Students enrolled in one or more AP/IB courses with an associated exam are expected to sit for the exam(s) and pay the test fee(s). Unpaid test fees will revert to student financial obligations. Consequences for unpaid financial obligations are set forth by each school.
Are test fees refundable if a student drops an AP/IB course? NO. AP/IB test fees are nonrefundable. The principal may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
Can students be charged for more than one exam fee for courses in which there are multiple exam options? NO. Students will only be charged for one exam for any AP course in which they are enrolled, even if there is an option to take more than one exam. Examples: Students enrolled in AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics will be required to take both exams. Students will be charged for one exam and FCPS will pay for the second exam. Students enrolled in AP Physics C or AP US & Comparative Government will be charged for the first exam and FCPS will pay for the second exam if they elect to take it.
Can students take AP exams for courses in which they are not currently enrolled? YES. Students who request to take an AP exam for a course in which they are NOT currently enrolled will pay the publicized College Board exam fee rate ($87.00 per exam). This exam fee will also apply to home school students requesting to take exam(s) at an FCPS high school. The AP Test Coordinator will continue to collect these exam fees and provide receipts as they have in the past. These “extra” exam fees will not be reflected in the centrally generated invoices that will be mailed home to parents/students in November since those invoices will be based upon current enrollment in an AP/IB course(s) with an associated exam.
Can AP/IB schools continue to collect late test registration, unused exam, and late test administration fees? YES. The AP/IB test coordinator should continue to assess and collect these fees as they have in the past.
