Students will learn to use the computer to visually communicate their ideas and become better prepared to compete in our ever changing age of technology. An introduction and review of basic computer skills will lead to an emphasis on learning the steps involved in creating computer manipulated color paintings, photo retouching and image editing. Students will learn to capture live and scanned images and learn to apply various filters to produce special effects. Students will learn to cut, paste, transform, resize and print their computer artwork. An introduction to object oriented drawing software, using desktop publishing as well as the ethical concerns surrounding computer manipulated imagery will be included. Grade: 10-12 Pre-requisite: Computer Graphics 1 Credit: 1
Students will extend their knowledge and skills in computer manipulated color paintings, photo retouching, and image editing. An emphasis will be on combining graphics with text for the purpose of creating exciting and clearly legible advertisements, logos, cover designs, and other commercial art related assignments. Students will be introduced to multi-media presentation and animation software as well as meet professional designers and view their work. The ethical concerns surrounding computer manipulated imagery will be included. Selected student artwork from the class.
Grade: 11-12 Pre-requisite: Computer Graphics 2 Credit: 1
Students engage in advanced study of computer graphic processes, aesthic issues, and appreciation while maintaining the attitude and self-discipline of a working artist. Working on a contract basis, they will exhibit technical proficiency and personal style in advanced media, and arrange an art show of their own work, as well as the work of others, using professional exhibiting techniques. A culminating portfolio evidencing quality, concentration and breadth of work produced throughout their high school program will be required. An emphasis will be placed on career opportunities. Exceptional commitment to computer graphics is expected of these advanced level students. The ethical concerns surrounding computer manipulated imagery will be included.
