Art 1 is the foundation level course for the high school art program. It is the prerequisite for Art 2, 3 and Portfolio Preparation: General, and is recommended for all students that elect a media focus course. Students explore a wide range of media, study art history, art appreciation, and aesthetics from a multicultural perspective. Results will be maintained in a beginning portfolio. Students extend and refine Art 1's development of visual literacy, knowledge of art history, and skill development. Students extend their knowledge and skills in a wide range of art media, processes, and techniques including: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and crafts. Grade: 11-12 Pre-requisite: Art 1 and Art 2 Credit: 1
Students engage in the study of art processes, aesthetic issues, art criticism, and art history. They will express concepts and communicate advanced approaches in media, critique, and philosophical discussion. Teachers will help students to from goals and to develop individual styles, become familiar art schools and careers, and develop the work habits of the professional artist. results will be added to the student's portfolio. Students engage in advanced study of art processes, aesthetic issues, art criticism, while maintaining the attitude and self-discipline of a working artist. They exhibit technical proficiency and personal style while working in advanced media, and arrange an art show of their own work, as well as the work of others, using professional exhibiting techniques. A culminating portfolio evidencing quality, concentration, breadth of work produced throughout their high school program will be required. An emphasis will be placed on career opportunities.
